*Song Description By Noles*

After releasing Plaid On Flannel's debut album on July 1, 2012, I quickly started writing new material for the next album. In the midst of my new ideas, I wanted to write a pump-up song with a pulse. A warm-up tune that a boxer or a UFC fighter could use as introduction music as they walk down the aisle towards the ring. I drew influence from the song "Battle Without Honor Or Humanity" by Tomoyasu Hotei from the Kill Bill Vol. 1 soundtrack. It's such a compelling instrumental with so much flare to it. And many fighters have featured it as intro music leading into their fights. But I wanted the warm-up tune I was writing to be in the context of battle and war.

The music for "Siege Of Megiddo" was written on July 11, 2012. I decided to keep it simple. With chord progressions that use down-strummed power chords on the guitar. Down strumming all chords is a heavy metal maneuver popularized by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi on songs like "Paranoid". While "Siege Of Megiddo" has a punchy rhythm, it is meant to feel like a marching beat. Portraying the march of soldiers about to engage in battle. Through the simple chord progressions of "Siege Of Megiddo", I added little lead guitar parts that transition through all the chords.

I wrote the lyrics for "Siege Of Megiddo" on July 25, 2012. While the subject of war was on my mind, I did some research to find lyrical inspiration for the song. Lyrics that could describe the specifics of battle and war. But I couldn't find a proper phrase for the tune's chorus. Something that could also be the main event and title of the song. Following my investigation of historical battle and war names, I didn't need to look any further than the first battle ever recorded in human history. The Battle Of Megiddo - 1457 BC - Between the Egyptians and the Canaanite forces. The Egyptians were victorious in this battle that took place in what is now part of northern Israel. But back then, it was known as Tel Megiddo, Canaan. Because "Battle Of Megiddo" doesn't sound musically pleasing, I changed it to "Siege Of Megiddo" for the tune. Some historians even call it that anyways. The pronunciation of Megiddo is "Meh-Gid-Oh". That didn't sound right to me, so I changed the pronunciation to "Mah-Gee-Doh". It flows a lot better with the vowel pronounced in the word Siege.

I began producing the Mission Of Mercy album on September 4, 2012, and the recording of "Siege Of Megiddo" started on October 15, 2012. Many backup vocal harmonies are in the Mission Of Mercy version of "Siege Of Megiddo". Especially in the choruses. I finished recording "Siege Of Megiddo" on October 24, 2012, and the entire Mission Of Mercy album was released on May 20, 2013.

After I moved to Toronto from Peterborough in September of 2013, the Plaid On Flannel band began on February 15, 2014 as a 3-piece. "Siege Of Megiddo" was part of the first batch of my original songs that I brought to the band. The next year, keyboardist Jen Doyon joined Plaid On Flannel on February 22, 2015. Her involvement on "Siege Of Megiddo" elevated the song with her organ sound and backup vocal harmonies. Here we are performing the song at Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival in Toronto on August 8, 2015... youtu.be/9QEi3yRM4gs "Siege Of Megiddo" was included on our Rising Above EP released on May 14, 2016. Tel Megiddo is also the subject for the EP's cover art. "Siege Of Megiddo" is a song I'm sure will be a part of POF's live repertoire for years to come.

lyrics

Words and music by Nolan Randall

Battle going on out in the field
Weaknesses are shown, they are revealed
Several men are going to engage
What they don't see, they are on a stage

Justice is gone, prepare for the Siege of Megiddo
It won't take long, beware of the Siege of Megiddo

Dangerously armed, what is the deal?
Bow before your God, if you don't kneel
Grimacing the likes of golden age
What is this that causes so much rage?

Justice is gone, prepare for the Siege of Megiddo
It won't take long, beware of the Siege of Megiddo

The blood that's lost is the cost
An enemy across sea
To be alive is the drive
We're on the Siege of Megiddo

So much love is given to a weapon
Something happened on the way to heaven
War is over with all this destruction
Don't forget, it's all an introduction

Justice is gone, prepare for the Siege of Megiddo
It won't take long, beware of the Siege of Megiddo
Justice is gone, prepare for the Siege of Megiddo
It won't take long, beware of the Siege of Megiddo
