*Song Description By Noles*

"Move Around" is a song that was written in different parts from 2006-2012. The main chord progression in the verses hitting the off-beats was written sometime in September of 2007. I remember this because I was in my first year of Radio-Broadcasting at Algonquin College. I believe I came up with the chord progression over the guitar solo for "Move Around" even before that. It could be as early as 2005, but it was likely about 2006. This chord progression of A7-D7-B7-E7 was inspired by The Beatles' "The End", as the closing track from their 1969 album Abbey Road. During the guitar solo in that tune, the chords A7 and D7 are played back and forth. So in "Move Around", I added the B7 and E7 with transition notes between all chords.

While my key of A7 ideas sat on the shelf for years, I would always practice those progressions so I wouldn't forget them. Then on September 3, 2011, I started producing Plaid On Flannel's debut album Fairbairn Meadows. Following the production of 10 songs for the record, I began recording what would become "Move Around" on May 7, 2012. But I didn't have lyrics for it yet. The chorus and arrangement were also written while I started recording the tune. I wrote the lyrics for "Move Around" on May 15, 2012. It's a song about having a curiosity mindset. To not stay in the same place for too long. The line "Let's talk a bit about passion" was inspired by R.E.M.'s "Talk About The Passion" from their 1983 album Murmur. Much of the lyrics in "Move Around" are somewhat ambiguous, but there's a theme of spiritual mobility in the tune's subject matter.

"Move Around" has an abundance of lead guitar throughout the whole song. While filling in spaces during the verses. There's an electric piano in "Move Around" that starts in the 1st chorus of the tune. By the 2nd chorus, it's playing arpeggios. This electric piano takes the arpeggios to another level in the 3rd verse by playing trills. The final chorus uses a "Truck Driver's Gear Shift" by moving the song's key up a full tone from A to B. This is a pop music trick that's been utilized a lot since the days of The Beach Boys and The Beatles. It might be the only time I've used it in the Plaidalog.

I finished recording "Move Around" on June 3, 2012, and the entire Fairbairn Meadows album was released on July 1, 2012. I've never played "Move Around" with a band. And I'm not sure if I ever will. But "Move Around" will always live on as the 5th track from Plaid On Flannel's debut album Fairbairn Meadows.

lyrics

Words and music by Nolan Randall

Thought I'd go to another city
To play a role in distraction
Five years old now and then I'm fifty
To keep my soul from reaction
Physically ill now and mentally stable
Let's talk a bit about passion
Let's see what this life will bring to the table
Let's multiply the fractions

You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
to go ahead and move around
You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
to go ahead and move around
You move around, you move around, you move around

Not enough time for me to rotate
So many things to attend to
Wish I never had to obligate
I have no time to commend you
Horrible pleasure and terrible good luck
No way I'm gonna pretend to
Make a dollar and take a big buck
We'll see how much they will send you

You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
To go ahead and move around
You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
To go ahead and move around
You move around, you move around, you move around

Splitting hairs while I tell my story
With so much to worry about
Feel the shame, but I feel the glory
There's lots for me to figure out
Cynically hoping, confidently doubting
It gives me nothing but a drought
What I've learned now from every outing
Is that I never had a doubt

You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
to go ahead and move around
You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
to go ahead and move around
You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
to go ahead and move around
You move around and then you, you settle down
Then you get so bored
You want another chance
to go ahead and move around
You move around, you move around, you move around
