*Song Description By Noles*

I came up with the verse and chorus chord progressions for "Major Minor" sometime in January of 2010, while I was attending my last school year of Radio Broadcasting at Algonquin College. The main chord progression is based off an Em7 chord. Using other major and minor 7th chords to go along with sus4 and add9 chords. The music for "Major Minor" was unlike anything I had written before. Going beyond the basic chords I would normally write songs with. I played these chord progressions continuously over the next year so I wouldn't forget them. Always humming melodies and improvising lyrics. I already had the title "Major Minor" figured out before I even had lyrics for the tune.

After moving back to Peterborough, I came up with the name Plaid On Flannel on November 25, 2010. I finally began producing Plaid On Flannel's debut album Fairbairn Meadows on September 3, 2011. Following the production of 4 songs for the album, I started recording "Major Minor" on December 4, 2011. I wrote a lot of different lyrics from when I started the tune almost 2 years earlier. But I officially wrote the finalized lyrics for "Major Minor" on December 10, 2011. The fictional title character of "Major Minor" is a soldier named Michael Mayfair who returns from war with a split personality. "Major" being happy, and "Minor" being sad. The guitar solo sections of "Major Minor" are in a major key. While all other sections of the song are in a minor key. "Major Minor" is the longest Plaid On Flannel tune from the 2010s. Clocking in at 6:10.

I finished recording "Major Minor" on December 18, 2011, and the entire Fairbairn Meadows album was released on July 1, 2012. I've never played "Major Minor" with a band, but I have performed it as a solo acoustic act. "Major Minor" is a song I want to play with a Plaid On Flannel band in the future, but it would have to be transposed down to a lower key for my vocal range.

lyrics

Words and music by Nolan Randall

They say it’s not his fault
Has no more wounds to salt
They told him not to worry
And everything will run it’s course
None of the games he’s won
Broke-down bastard, he left his son
And swears he will return
From all the battles and wars
He started walking slow
Because he doesn’t even know how to run
It’s all for fun or so the little story goes
He never knows such episodes
Getting adjusted to all the codes

His mind is set on what to do
He’ll find a way to find another reason too
He can’t escape the lies and fears of keeping up
If it’s a dream you know it can’t be a nightmare
You know Mr. Mayfair just someday might care
They wonder why they ever even wish him luck

He’ll make his call against the wall
He’ll start to crawl, and then he’ll fall
Above it all, it’s not his fault

Working his life away with all the bills to pay
His mother told him that he never should complain
Hot, then he’s cold as ice
Livin’ everyday as he rolls the dice
He’s cool one minute then the next he goes insane
Some people are concerned
And some don’t even care if he is alive
The car’s in drive, but no one is behind the wheel
The truth is real, he can’t conceal
All the temptations that he’ll feel

His mind is set on what to do
He’ll find a way to find another reason too
He can’t escape the lies and fears of keeping up
If it’s a dream, you know it can’t be a nightmare
You know Mr. Mayfair just someday might care
They wonder why they ever even wish him luck
He’ll make his call against the wall
He’ll start to crawl, and then he’ll fall
Above it all, it’s not his fault

(Working his life away with all the bills to pay
his mother told him that he never should complain)
His mind is set on what to do
He’ll find a way to find another reason too
He can’t escape the lies and fears of keeping up
(Hot then he’s cold as ice
Livin’ everyday as he rolls the dice
He’s cool one minute then the next he goes insane)
If it’s a dream you know it can’t be a nightmare
You know Mr. Mayfair just someday might care
They wonder why they ever even wish him luck
(They say it’s not his fault
Has no more wounds to salt
They told him not to worry
and everything will run it’s course)
His mind is set on what to do
He’ll find a way to find another reason too
He can’t escape the lies and fears of keeping up
(None of the games he’s won
Broke-down bastard, he left his son
And swears he will return
from all the battles and wars)

He’ll make his call against the wall
He’ll start to crawl, and then he’ll fall
Above it all, it’s not his fault
