The main guitar part for "Another Planet" was something I played around with for years before recording the tune. I'm not even sure when I first came up with it. But I knew the guitar part could work well in a 12-bar blues format. This was one of the many song ideas I had in mind when I began producing Plaid On Flannel's debut album Fairbairn Meadows on September 3, 2011. Following the production of 11 tunes for the album, I started recording "Another Planet" on June 8, 2012. It was the last song recorded for Fairbairn Meadows.
I wrote the lyrics for "Another Planet" on June 8, 2012, the same day I started recording the song. With lyrics for 4 different verses, 2 choruses, and a bridge, I filled the entire page when I wrote the words for "Another Planet". It's a tune about escapism. The act of eluding the injustices of the world to "leave and go to another planet". Maybe not figuratively speaking. But the focus of "Another Planet" addresses the need to evade the harsh realities of life. While writing these lyrics, I was thinking about one of my roommates I had at the time. He didn't have a job, and still somehow got by. And also hooked up with attractive women. I couldn't understand the guy's over-achievements. Because I worked harder than him and got less results out of life than he did. But I shouldn't have been comparing myself to him in the first place. Now that I'm older, I understand that I'm only competing with myself in this life. And everybody will get what's coming to them sooner or later. The universe tends to unfold as it should.
After I wrote the lyrics for "Another Planet", I proceeding to compose and arrange the entire song. With the main part being based around a 12-bar blues chord progression, I figured the tune would be solely blues-based. But when I added acoustic guitar as the main guitar in "Another Planet", it began to instrumentally have a Spanish flamenco sound to it. And that's when I added a nylon stringed lead acoustic MIDI software instrument. It's used as a lead instrument between vocal phrases throughout the entire song. And then there's an electric lead guitar solo after the bridge of "Another Planet". I used more MIDI software instruments on "Another Planet" such as organ, strings and horns. The horns play arpeggios at different speeds throughout the tune. Playing at the fastest speed during the instrumental sections of "Another Planet". This sound reminded me of the theme song from the 1990s animated T.V. show X-Men.
I finished recording "Another Planet" on June 23, 2012, and the entire Fairbairn Meadows album was released on July 1, 2012. I've never played "Another Planet with a band, and I've never performed it as a solo acoustic act. I'm not sure if I ever will. But "Another Plant" will always live on as the 8th track from Plaid On Flannel's debut album Fairbairn Meadows.

Words and music by Nolan Randall
We've got another friend of ours who won't even go
We've got another friend with cars
Who thinks that he knows
I sit and wonder why sometimes, life it moves so slow
I used to think my future was easy, now I'm not sure
With little pleasure, it would just tease me
I feel premature
The life that I live is so different than the one I prefer
Working so hard, can't even stand it
Life is not what you're gonna plan it
The guy who won't go, he still can manage
It's time to get up and leave and go to another planet
I'm steady rolling this time here, far from the begin
My occupation is sincere, at least I give in
If you're leaving for somewhere
Don't worry where you've been
You've got another plane to catch, a plain ambition
You've got another brain to scratch, a failed audition
We can't be falling apart, 'cause we are on a mission
Working so hard, can't even stand it
Life is not what you're gonna plan it
The guy who won't go, he still can manage
It's time to get up and leave and go to
Finishing right where we began it
Seedier than a pomegranate
Did less than what a family man did
It's time to get up and leave
Another planet's cold with no oxygen
There's no way you could even understand it
And then the time goes by right before your eyes
And then you die
Working so hard, can't even stand it
Life is not what you're gonna plan it
The guy who won't go, he still can manage
It's time to get up and leave and go to
Finishing right where we began it
Seedier than a pomegranate
Did less than what a family man did
It's time to get up and leave and go to another planet
